Grandma’s Cooking

Li FanIt is hard to get a real sense of a place from just postcards or travel magazines. That’s why Boots to Beijing was so taken by Li Fan’s photographs of his home in Nanjing. An art student at the University of North Texas, Li returned to China last spring for a spiritual ceremony for his recently deceased father. His pictures, which he audibly narrates in a slideshow, pull you into the home of his tight-knit family. Like guests, we’re invited to delight in his grandmother’s sumptuous feasts, share in important Chinese rituals and feel the love Li has for his family — so far away most of the time. He also presents a kaleidoscope of Chinese street scenes. After graduating, Li wants to return to Nanjing and open a photography studio. To see this talented young man’s work, click here.
