  OLYMPICS 2008

  Sunday, 24th

AugustZaijian Auyuanhui!! Good bye Olympic games!!

China is and should be proud. I had about 20 friends over for bar-b-que to watch the closing ceremony, and though it wasn't on the scale of the opening, it was still awesome. (At least the China contributions...the British section was weak and questionable).

I will do a more reflective piece in a few days, but my over all experience was great. I lived for 6 years in New Orleans while studying architecture at Tulane. Once I had been to a Mardi Gras I didn't have to ever go again. This was different. I am tired and ready to get back to a routine, but I would go again in a heart beat.

I do think this was just good clean fun. All of the events were done very tastefully for the whole family. That is one thing I admire this country for. The events and the venues were world class. All the fans participating were having fun.

It was a very nice and class touch for Jackie Chan and a few others dressed representing the large group of volunteers to receive flowers of appreciation. They were most deserving of public recognition and thanks for doing a great service to all those who came to the Olympics.

My friend Brad and I are heading for one last foot massage and an Indian food dinner. He will board his plane home to the states early tomorrow morning. It has been fun to share this once in a life time experience with such a great guy who truly loved every experience we had here in Beijing together. We ended a tour of the hutongs around Ho Hai with his newly discovered and favorite new China find...a crunchy, pinapple popcicle.
